She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and husband. McAnally was the first woman on an Eastland County grand jury after voters approved an amendment to the Texas Constitution allowing women to serve in 1954. Having worked during WWII on an airbase in Midland and in a munitions factory in Arizona, she was a licensed insurance and real estate agent and an omnivorous reader. They lived in Florida, Arizona and Mississippi, but spent most of their married lives in her beloved Texas. She and her husband William “Mac”, a Tennessee native, married on December 30, 1943. She graduated from Carbon High School and attended Tarleton State University. McAnally was born Main the Flatwood, TX community. Nell Collins McAnally, 93, formerly of Columbus, passed away on February 13, 2014, in Comanche County, Texas, and was buried in the family cemetery at Bear Springs, Texas.
